• Visiting residents will be awarded a $6,000 stipend for participating in the program. The stipend is designed to help offset the cost of housing and transportation. It will be dispersed in two installments—$2,000 before the rotation and $4,000 following the rotation.
  
• Dates for the four-week rotation will be either March March 3-30, 2025 or March 31-April 27, 2025.
• Visiting residents will receive mentorship from outstanding Stanford faculty members.
• Visiting residents will participate in activities designed to foster connections within the cohort, with Stanford Pediatrics residents and fellows, and more broadly across the Stanford community.

• The resident must be in good standing within a Pediatrics, Medicine-Pediatrics, or other pediatrics combined residency program.
  
• The resident must be at least a second-year resident or higher and part of an ACGME-accredited residency program. Preference will be given to residents applying for fellowship in the coming year.
  
• The resident should express strong interest in applying to a Stanford fellowship program. Selection will be based on past clinical and academic achievement as well as potential achievement within the selected subspeciality.
• As part of the GME Visiting Resident Application, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.
  
• Unfortunately, the GME office is unable to sponsor Canadians on Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) on J-1 visas for short-term electives (less than one (1) year).

Visiting residents will be awarded a $6,000 stipend for participating in the program. The stipend is designed to help offset the cost of housing and transportation. It will be dispersed in two installments—$2,000 before the rotation and $4,000 following the rotation. The resident’s home institution must cover their salary and benefits.

1. Visiting residents are provided with a meal card good for use at Stanford Hospital Cafes/Cafeterias. The amount is on par with the amount supplied to Stanford Pediatrics Residents. Meal cards are distributed at the welcome reception.

2. The GME stocks the lounge with healthy snacks for after-hours when the cafeteria and other food options are not available. The lounge is located on the 4th floor of the hospital, room HC433, next to the GME Office.

3. Additionally, the GME provides night meals at Stanford Children’s Health:

• Who: Residents and Fellows working overnight shifts 
• When: 6:00pm and later each evening 
• Where: Pediatric Residency Lounge, Room 3856 of the West Building of LPCH (take the elevators/stairs by the train to the 3rd floor), and the room is to the right as you leave the elevator/stairs.  Food is in a labeled refrigerator.  

Do visiting residents have access to the gym facilities?

Yes, visiting residents have access to the GME gym. The GME gym is located on the 4th floor of the SHC. Equipment includes: stair-climbers, treadmills, bicycles and weights. Residents must use their access card to enter and exit the roof access door that leads to the gym. The code for the gym door can be found posted above the keypad used to access the gym.

Do visiting residents need malpractice coverage?

No, malpractice coverage is provided for visiting residents.

Do visiting residents need a special license for California?

No, visiting residents may work without a license in California for no more than 90 days.

Can visiting residents on a J-1 or H-1B visa apply to the PRESS program?

Yes, visiting residents on a J-1 visa can apply to the PRESS program, however there are restrictions on awarding stipends.  

Unfortunately, visiting residents on an H-1B visa are unable to participate due to restrictions on labor and salary rules.

Can visiting residents from ACGME-accredited programs in Puerto Rico participate?

Yes, visiting residents from ACGME-accredited programs in Puerto Rico can participate in the PRESS Program, the only exception is if they are on an H-1B visa.
